The Toi Et Moi.

Arguably the most romantic and historic ring setting style, Toi et moi, the recent choice of Machine Gun Kelly to propose to Megan Fox is making a comeback. So, we thought we would dive further into the history of this glamorous engagement ring.

Toi et moi, meaning “you and me” in French, refers to a ring with two gems that sit side by side or close to one another, symbolising two souls becoming one. The classic Toi et moi features two gems of similar size and cut, but recently  ring designers have been playing with the concept, juxtaposing different materials, motifs and gems.

1796 was the year the Toi et moi ring was really brought to the attention of the wider audience, in a scandalous relationship between Napoleon Bonaparte, at the time a revolutionary soldier in the French army, who proposed to Joséphine de Beauharnais. They were married within 3 weeks, Napoleon's family very against the union. After all, Josephine was 6 years older, widowed with two children from her previous marriage. But, this didn’t stop the smitten Napoleon. Their love story would go down in history as one of the most passionate of all time.

The significance of this two stoned engagement ring is not only romantic because of the symbolism of coming together, two becoming one, but also, the stones carry much symbolism. A popular pairing, being a diamond and a ruby, the diamond representing love and prosperity, the ruby passion and devotion.

While this style has plenty of history behind it, many modern, A-list celebrities are proving its appeal is timeless. Emily Ratajkowski, Ariana Grande and Megan Fox are a few to mention who have this beautiful ring on their finger, each the same setting style, yet all so unique and meaningful to each of them.
