Now we live, breathe and LOVE weddings, in all forms, but we adore the idea of saying no to all of the "usual traditions and rules” that simply don't feel like you, and being radically authentic in how you and your lover celebrate! There’s a reason we believe in your wedding, your way.
Noun: anti wedding - Not to be mistaken for no wedding at all, the anti wedding is a movement that ditches perceived wedding essentials and over-the-top extravagances weddings are often associated with, allowing the couple to focus on the celebration without the stress or financial burden.
The anti wedding has always been around, these alternative weddings are the ones that end up in your Pinterest Board and can often inspire and ignite wedding trends, IYKYK! Weddings have seen a massive change over the last few years, lock-downs and restrictions around events forced many couples to reconsider what an alternative to a wedding could look like.
Celebs have been on-board with wedding alternatives from way back in the 90’s when SJP wore a black dress to her intimate NYC wedding to more recently Kourtney & Travis Barker or Bennifer heading to Vegas to tie the knot and have no doubt influenced the resurgence of the anti wedding.
For all you anti brides out there, we asked our Head Stylist Alanah, her favourite tips on some incorporating elements to achieve the ultimate anti wedding!
Leaning into colour and fun over traditional palettes.
We might have Covid to thank for the resurgence of bright colours and bold shapes in not only weddings but also fashion, homewares and interior design. Bright colours make us happy - it’s science! Leaning into bright and bold florals, styling with fruits and vegetables, quirky wedding stationery that is both informative and A HELL OF A LOT OF FUN!
Get cheeky! Mini dresses and fun accessories over the traditional gown.
The anti wedding couple are choosing shorter dresses or more casual looks and fun accessories over the traditional gown. We are loving a mini-dress and veil combo or white wedding suit and wide brim hat! What’s not to love? Saving money? Tick! Feeling comfortable? 100% Knowing you can tear up the dance floor later that night? Yes please!
First looks and staying together the night before over the traditional night apart.
The whole day is about you and your Lover so wouldn’t you want to spend as much of the day with them as possible? So many modern couples are choosing to stay together the night before their big day together and choosing to have private first looks prior to the ceremony to really capitalise on time together. Weddings are crazy, they go fast and at times can be turbulent. Why wouldn’t you want your favourite person by your side for as much of the experience as possible?
Champagne towers over cake cutting.
Cake is great, but something you notice as a Wedding Planner is that half the cake goes uneaten, instead sitting sadly on the table as guests dance the night away. The trend of pouring a Champagne Tower over cake cutting remedies this, no one leaves champagne on the table! I especially love the current trend of pouring a Champagne Tower as soon as you have signed on the dotted line! This signals that the formality of the Ceremony is over and it’s time for the party to begin!
