“You’ve got so much experience in the industry, tell us how you started your business?”
“I started my apprenticeship while I was still in school and I was the first school based apprentice they signed in the Sutherland shire. Since then for me, it has always been hair! I Have worked in a few salons over that time and made the decision 8 years ago to start my own business which is when Grace Roby Hair came about!”
“How did you make the transition into weddings?”
“A few of my long term clients who were also like family started to get married and asked me to do their wedding hair, the thought of doing someone’s hair on one of the biggest days on their life really scared me at first, but it soon had me hooked and now my business has taken a turn to being majority wedding hair styling.
I absolutely love it and I wouldn’t change it for anything. I feel beyond blessed to be a part of someone’s wedding day, the energy is always high, I always walk away feeling so lucky.”
“What hairstyles are you currently crushing on? And what styles are you predicting will be here to stay for Spring / Summer 2022 & 2023?”
“I really feel in the last few years’ brides are wanting more of a relaxed style for their wedding hair and I’m all for it! Brides these days are looking for a look that enhances their natural beauty rather than a big transformation.
This season is all about the big fluffy curls and the effortless undone up-styles creating looks that are soft and romantic. These classic and yet simple hairstyles are ones that fit most facial structures and look fabulous on any bride. These styles are timeless and will be sticking around for a while.
Lately I’ve been working a lot with extensions for a natural but more elevated look. Not only are extensions being used for length, but to create fuller looks that last longer. I’m also seeing that hair jewellery is making a comeback. Rhinestones, crystals and pearls - the basic clip is not so basic when it comes to trending bridal hair accessories. I’m loving this at the moment, and if there was ever a time to include a bold headpiece or accessory for your reception or afterparty look, the time is now!”
“What is your advice for brides currently considering their bridal hair stylist?”
“Be mindful that you will be spending time with this person for most of your morning and on one of the biggest days of your life. You want the energy in the room to be calm and stress free.
Have a trial and meet with your stylist, bring along photos of your dress, flowers, everything we want to get a gauge of your wedding style and vision for the day! Also remember that hair and makeup is super important to get right, you will look at these photos for the rest of your life.”
“What hair-care steps should brides do in the lead up to their wedding?”
“Regular trims, treatments and an at home hair care plan starting at least 5 months out from your wedding. I always speak to my brides at their trial about what they should and shouldn’t be doing at home and we come up with a plan together to achieve the best results for their wedding day.”
“To finish off, what are some current wedding trends you are loving at the moment?”
"I’m loving the ‘not-so-traditional’ weddings that I am seeing a lot of lately. Keeping things about what the couples love and what is true to them rather than doing what they feel like they should do because it’s a “Wedding tradition”. I’m also a sucker for a short wedding dress or a change of dress for the reception."
